How to Be a Handbag Dealer

Introduction

If you have great style, a love for bags, and a knack for business, you may be well suited to be a handbag dealer. Handbag dealers buy bags and sell them to customers. As a handbag dealer, you will be responsible for deciding what merchandise to carry in your shop. There are tons of handbag dealers so you will have to set yourself apart from the crowd. You also need a good sense of fashion so that you can carry bags that people will want to buy.

Difficulty: Difficult

Instructions

Step 1

Decide what kind of bags you want to sell. Are you going to sell brand name expensive bags or knockoffs? Do you want to carry large tote bags or small wristlets?

Step 2

Go into other handbag stores and see how they work. Check out their inventory and prices. If you plan to sell knockoffs, try going to areas like Chinatown in NYC. If you are going to sell high-end bags, look at Louis Vitton and Coach stores.

Step 3

Investigate different suppliers. Look online for suppliers and call places for more information. Go into other shops and ask the managers what suppliers they use. Ask the potential suppliers for cost and delivery information. You can also ask them where else they sell to so you can know how many other places will be selling the same merchandise as you.

Step 4

Make your bags known. Put ads in the paper with pictures of cute displays of your bags. Tack fliers on bulletin boards and telephone poles. Call all of your friends and contacts and ask them to spread the word.

Step 5

Add a unique touch to your dealings. Try offering a small gift with purchase. You can also offer a cold or warm drink to customers to entice them into your store and make them feel comfortable.

Tip

Before starting out on your own, get a job in a handbag shop to learn the business from the bottom.
