How to Open a Sports Clothing Store

Fans love to wear clothing of their favorite sports teams, especially to games. There are all sorts of sports clothing. There are articles in the style of team uniforms. There are also sweatshirts and t-shirts with team logos, and in addition to that there is actual sports gear clothing. Sports clothing sold at games are often way overpriced. By starting a store that is separate from a stadium, people may be more likely to buy from you because your prices will be fair.

Step 1

Pick a location. Look for a building that is in an area where sports are popular, particularly the hometown of a team’s stadium is great. College towns where the university is Division I are also good places to try opening a sports clothing store.

Step 2

Go to games and speak to attendees. Ask them what teams they support and what kind of sports clothing they like to wear. Write down the most popular choices so you won’t forget them.

Step 3

Find suppliers who carry the items you have identified as good to stock in your store. Try to work out a deal with the supplier, especially for merchandise that relates to local teams since those items will probably sell faster.

Step 4

Advertise your new store. Put up fliers in nearby stadiums, fields, and arenas. You can also put fliers in the gyms of local schools.

Step 5

Contact local star sports players and ask them if they will sign a number of clothing items for you. Display a few of the articles and use the others to lure customers into the store. Give a raffle ticket to anyone who makes a purchase and raffle off the autographed clothes.
