How to Train to Become a Police Officer in Ohio
Introduction
If you want to help Ohio run smoothly and safely, you may want to train to become a police officer. Police officer is a noble and important job. The police are responsible for enforcing laws and keeping the people safe. Law enforcement careers have great benefits and even during tough economic times, police officers are still in demand. The training for police officers includes classroom and experiential components and it does not take too long to complete.

Instructions
Step 1
Get your high school diploma. Continue your education by earning your associate’s or bachelor’s degree, preferably in criminal justice.
Step 2
Find a police training academy. Sign up to be trained. Pick an academy in your area if you can because you will be living at the academy and it’s nice to be close to home in case you need something or you want to see your family.
Step 3
Attend the training classes. You will need to finish 550 hours of training which will take about 6 months. The courses will include the following topics: dealing with suspects, collecting crime scene evidence, and diffusing volatile situations.
Step 4
Sign up to take the Ohio Peace Officer’s Certification exam. You cannot get certified as a police officer if you do not pass this test.
Step 5
Take the physical exam. This is a test of your health and your athletic stamina. You will need to be able to run one mile under a time limit. You must pass every part of the physical exam to become a police officer.
Step 6
Apply for employment with the police department of your choice. Be aware that the hiring season is not year-round so keep track of when the department is looking for new staff members.
